Poem by Robert browning

THIS was my dream: I saw a Forest
Old as the earth, no track nor trace
Of unmade man. Thou, Soul, explorest-
Though in a trembling rapture- space
Immeasurable! Shrubs, turned trees,
Trees that touch heaven, support its frieze
Studded with sun and moon and star:
While- oh, the enormous growths that bar
Mine eye from penetrating past
Their tangled twine where lurks- nay, lives
Royally lone, some brute-type cast
I' the rough, time cancels, man forgives.

On, Soul! I saw a lucid City
Of architectural device
Every way perfect. Pause for pity,
Lightning! nor leave a cicatrice
On those bright marbles, dome and spire,
Structures palatial,- streets which mire
Dares not defile, paved all too fine
For human footstep's smirch, not thine-
Proud solitary traverser,
My Soul, of silent lengths of way-
With what ecstatic dread, aver,
Lest life start sanctioned by the stay!

Ah, but the last sight was the hideous!
A City, yes,- a Forest, true,-
But each devouring each. Perfidious
Snake-plants had strangled what I knew
Was a pavilion once: each oak
Held on his horns some spoil he broke
By surreptitiously beneath
Upthrusting: pavements, as with teeth,
Griped huge weed widening crack and split
In squares and circles stone-work erst.
Oh, Nature- good! Oh, Art- no whit
Less worthy! Both in one- accurst!

NATIONAL INTEGRATION SPEECH

NATIONAL INTEGRATION SPEECH
============================
A very Good Morning to all present here! I am standing here to present a speech on the topic – ‘National Integration’. It is a very significant aspect as it has a deep bearing on the country’s unity and integrity.

What exactly does National Integration mean? It means the realization of collective identity among the natives of a country. It signifies that even though we all belong to diverse religions, regions, castes and speak different languages; we must always feel that we all are one. Such feeling of oneness is very crucial for building a prosperous and strong nation. The real meaning of integration is the existence of multifarious identities with a unifying thread.

In the words of Benjamin Franklin – “National integration is the assimilation of the entire people of a country to a common identity.”

India has a vast land and people from diverse communities, cultures and castes inhabit the space. It seems almost impossible to hold all of them together and it was owing to these religious and cultural differences that the country lost its independence in the past. Now that our country is free, it should be our first and foremost responsibility to preserve its integrity and honour from external threats and internal dissension.

National Integration not only helps in the formation of a strong country, but also encourages the development of its people. In India, the period from 19th November to 25th November is celebrated as the National Integration Week to raise awareness about the subject matter among the common public.

The idea of National Integration has also led to the obliteration of social and religious differences. So, if people of our country stand in unity, many societal issues can be eradicated. People of different faith and communities who used to uphold their religion over others are gradually realizing the importance of oneness and are standing in support of the country’s unity and honour.

National integration has led to the formation of an invisible thread of unity which binds different parts of the country. It has certainly added to the country’s strength. During the struggle for Independence also, people of our country came together to win freedom from the unjust foreign rule.

In the end, I would like to say that we as Indian citizens must stand united for protecting national security. There is a famous citation by Emanuel Cleaver on National Integration which says that “There is more power in unity than division”. Hence, we must always remain united irrespective of all our social, linguistic and religious differences.

Thank You!

SPEECH ON MOTHER

SPEECH ON MOTHER
=========================
Good Morning all! We are here on this day to salute the most lovable and important person, the Mother. Without her, anyone of us could have not been here. We are obliged towards her for taking so much pain and labour to bring us into this beautiful world.

In the words of Agatha Christie, “A mother’s love for her child is like nothing else in the world. It knows no law, no pity. It dares all things and crushes down remorselessly all that stands in its path.”

A mother feeds her children with her own blood in the womb and does a lot of sacrifices to raise her children. She is a substitute of God on this earth. No love can exceed or even match the love of a mother for her child. All the great men have reached to such points only because of the support and devotion of their mothers who always stood by them and motivated to perform ahead of the field. Gandhiji is one such example of a man who has reaped benefits from a loving and devout mother, Putlibai.

From the time we enter this world till we are carried off by the death, we come across many relationships in our lives. Some are just for a while, some deceive us and some leave us when we need them the most and some are with us because of their self-seeking attributes. But the one being that surpasses the care, affection and love of everybody for a person is the “Mother”. She is the best trainer and guide of every child. She teaches us on how to take those first steps of our lives, how to speak, write and the behavioural lessons which help us to become better adults and well conduct ourselves in this world.

Every mother should be given due respect and must be admired for all the things she does and sacrifices she makes for her children. She has done everything for her children. And now it’s our time to discharge our duties towards her. We must try our utmost to never let her down and be the cause of her grief.  We should never overlook the fact that right since the time of our birth we are so dependent on her for every little thing. She is the one who supports us and continues to nurture us with all her heart. Her love and affection are incomparable and immeasurable.

Our mothers are our security blankets that keep us warm and save us from all the difficulties. She forgets all her sorrows and lives for her child. As today is Mother’s Day, we must all pledge to make our mothers happy not only on this particular day, but for the rest of our lives.

In the end, I would like to wish a very Happy Mother’s Day to all the wonderful mothers present here and I truly seek God’s grace and protection for them so that they keep up with their challenging role always.

Thank You!

ESSAYS ON ORGAN DONATION

ESSAYS  ON ORGAN DONATION
============================
Organ donation has proved to be a miracle for the society. Organs such as kidneys, heart, eyes, liver, small intestine, bone tissues, skin tissues and veins are donated for the purpose of transplantation. The donor gives a new life to the recipient by the way of this noble act.

Organ donation is encouraged worldwide. The government of different countries have put up different systems in place to encourage organ donation. However, the demand for organs is still quite high as compared to their supply. Effective steps must be taken to meet this ever-increasing demand. Here are essays of varying lengths to help you with the topic of organ donation in your exam.

ESSAY ON ORGAN DONATION
ORGAN DONATION ESSAY 1 (200 WORDS)
Organ donation is done by both living and deceased donors. The living donors can donate one of the two kidneys, a lung or a part of a lung, one of the two lobes of their liver, a part of the intestines or a part of the pancreas. While a deceased donor can donate liver, kidneys, lungs, intestines, pancreas, cornea tissue, skin tissue, tendons and heart valves.

The organ donation process varies from country to country. The process has broadly been classified into two categories – Opt in and Opt out. Under the opt-in system, one is proactively required to register for donation of his/ her organs while in the opt-out system, every individual becomes a donor post death unless he/she opts-out of it.

There is a huge demand for organs. It is sad how several people in different parts of the world die each year waiting for organ transplant. The governments of different countries are taking steps to raise the supply of organs and in certain parts the number of donors has increased. However, the requirement of organs has simultaneously increased at a much rapid speed.

Each one of us should come forward and register to donate organs after death. “Be an organ donor, all it costs is a little love”.

ORGAN DONATION ESSAY 2 (300 WORDS)
Organ donation takes place when an organ of a person’s body is removed with his consent while he is alive or with the consent of his family member after his death for the purpose of research or transplant. Kidneys, liver, lungs, heart, bones, bone marrow, corneas, intestines and skin are transplanted to give new life to the receiver.

Organ Donation Process

Living Donors
Living donors require undergoing thorough medical tests before organ donation. This also includes psychological evaluation of the donor to ensure whether he understands the consequences of donation and truly consents for it.

Deceased Donors
In case of the deceased donors, it is first verified that the donor is dead. The verification of death is usually done multiple times by a neurologist. It is then determined if any of his/ her organs can be donated.

After death, the body is kept on a mechanical ventilator to ensure the organs remain in good condition. Most organs work outside the body only for a couple of hours and thus it is ensured that they reach the recipient immediately after removal.

Gap between Demand and Supply

The demand for organs is considerably higher than the number of donors around the world. Each year several patients die waiting for donors. Statistics reveal that in India against an average annual demand for 200,000 kidneys, only 6,000 are received. Similarly, the average annual demand for hearts is 50,000 while as low as 15 of them are available.

The need for organ donation needs to be sensitized among the public to increase the number of donors. The government has taken certain steps such as spreading awareness about the same by way of TV and internet. However, we still have a long way to go.

Conclusion

Organ donation can save a person’s life. Its importance must not be overlooked. A proper system should be put in place for organ donation to encourage the same.

—————————-

ORGAN DONATION ESSAY 3 (400 WORDS)
Organ donation is the process of allowing organ or tissue to be removed surgically from one person to place it in another person or to use it for research purpose. It is done by the consent of donor in case he is alive or by the consent of next of kin after death. Organ donation is encouraged worldwide.

Kidneys, liver, lungs, heart, bones, bone marrow, skin, pancreas, corneas, intestines and skin are commonly used for transplantation to render new life to the recipient. Organ donation is mostly done after the donor’s death. However, certain organs and tissues such as a kidney, lobe of a lung, portion of the liver, intestine or pancreas can be donated by living donors as well.

Organ Donation Consent Process

There are two types of consents when it comes to organ donation. These are the explicit consent and the presumed consent.

Explicit Consent: Under this the donor provides a direct consent through registration and carrying out other required formalities based on the country.
Presumed Consent: This does not include a direct consent from the donor or the next of kin. As the name suggests, it is assumed that the donation would have been allowed by the potential donor in case consent was pursued.
Among the possible donors approximately twenty five percent of the families deny donation of their loved one’s organs.

Organ Donation in India

Legalised by Law
Organ donations are legal as per the Indian law. The Transplantation of Human Organs Act (THOA), 1994 enacted by the government of India permits organ donation and legalizes the concept of brain death.

Documentation and Formalities
The donor is required to fill a prescribed form. The same can be taken from the hospital or other medical facility approached for organ donation or can be downloaded from the ministry of health and family welfare government of India’s website.

In case of a deceased donor, a written consent from the lawful custodian is required in the prescribed application form.

Statistics
As is the case with the rest of the world, the demand of organs in India is much higher compared to their supply. There is a major shortage of donated organs in the country. Several patients are on the wait list and many of them succumb to death waiting for organ transplant.

Conclusion

The government of India is making efforts to spread awareness about organ transplant to encourage the same. However, it needs to take effective steps to raise the number of donors.

—————————

ORGAN DONATION ESSAY 4 (500 WORDS)
Organ donation refers to the process of giving organs or tissues to a living recipient who requires a transplant. Organ donation is mostly done after death. However, certain organs can be donated even by a living donor.

The organs that are mostly used for the purpose of transplant include kidney, liver, heart, pancreas, intestines, lungs, bones and bone marrow. Each country follows its own procedure for organ donation. Here is a look at how different countries encourage and process organ donation.

Organ Donation Process – Opt In and Opt Out

While certain countries follow the organ donation opt-in procedure others have the opt-out procedure in place. Here is a look at the difference between these two processes of organ donation:

Opt In System: In the opt-in system, people are required to proactively sign up for the donation of their organs after death.
Opt Out System: Under this system, organ donation automatically occurs unless a person specifically makes a request to opt out before death.
Organ Donation in Different Countries

India
India follows the opt-in system when it comes to organ donation. Anyone who wishes to donate organs needs to fill a prescribed form available on the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Government of India’s website.

In order to control organ commerce and encourage donation after brain death, the government of India came up with the law, The Transplantation of Human Organs Act in the year 1994. This brought about a considerable change in terms of organ donation in the country.

Spain
Spain is known to be the world leader in organ donations. It follows the opt-out system for organ donation.

United States
The need for organs in the United States is growing at a rapid pace. Though there has been a rise in the number of organ donors, however, the number of patients waiting for the organs has increased at a much higher rate. Organ donation in the United States is done only with the consent of the donor or their family. However, several organizations here are pushing for the opt-out organ donation.

United Kingdom
Organ donation in the United Kingdom is voluntary. Individuals who want to donate their organs after death can register for the same.

Iran
This is the only country that has been able to overcome the shortage of transplant organs. It has a legal payment system for organ donation and is also the only country that has legalized organ trade.

Japan
Organ donation is quite low in Japan as compared to other western countries. This is mainly due to cultural reasons, distrust in western medicines and a controversial organ transplant that took place in 1968.

Columbia
In Columbia, the ‘Law 1805’ passed in August 2016, introduced the opt-out policy for organ donation.

Chile
Chile opted for the opt-out policy for organ donation under the, ‘Law 20,413’ wherein all the citizens above the age of 18 years will donate organs unless they specifically deny it before death.

Conclusion

Most of the countries around the world suffer from low organ donor rate. The issue must be taken more seriously. Laws to increase the rate of organ donation must be put in place to encourage the same.

————————–

ORGAN DONATION ESSAY 5 (600 WORDS)
Organ Donation is the surgical removal of a living or dead donor’s organs to place them in the recipient to render him/her a new life. Organ donation has been encouraged worldwide. However, the demand of human organs far outweighs the supply. Low rate of organ donation around the world can be attributed to various reasons. These reasons are discussed below in detail.

Teleological Issues

The moral status of the black market organ donation is debatable. While some argue in favour of it others are absolutely against the concept. It has been seen that those who donate their organs are generally from the poor section of the society and those who can afford these are quite well off. There is thus an imbalance in the trade.

It has been observed that those who can purchase the organs are taking advantage of the ones who are desperate to sell. This is said to be one of the reasons for the rising inequality of status between the rich and the poor. On the other hand, it is argued that those who want to sell their organs should be allowed to do so as preventing them from it is only contributing to their status as impoverished. Those who are in favour of the organ trade also argue that exploitation is preferable to death and hence organ trade must be legalized. However, as per a survey, later in life the living donors regret their decision of donating their organs.

Several cases of organ theft have also come forward. While those in support of the legalization of organ market say that this happens because of the black market nature of trade while others state that legalizing it would only result in the rise of such crimes as the criminal can easily state that the organ being sold has not been stolen.

Deontological Issues

These are defined by a person’s ethical duty to take action. Almost all the societies in the world believe that donating organs voluntarily is ethically permissible. Many scholars believe that everyone should donate their organs after death.

However, the main issue from the standpoint of deontological ethics is the debate over the definitions of life, death, body and human. It has been argued that organ donation is an act of causing self harm. The use of cloning to come up with organs with a genotype identical to the recipient is another controversial topic.

Xenotransplantation which is the transfer of animal organs into human bodies has also created a stir. Though this has resulted in increased supply of organs it has also received a lot of criticism. Certain animal rights groups have opposed the sacrifice of animals for organ donation. Campaigns have been launched to ban this new field of transplantation.

Religious Issues

Different religious groups have different viewpoints regarding organ donation. The Hindu religion does not prohibit people from donating organs. The advocates of the Hindu religion state that it is an individual choice. Buddhists share the same view point.

The Catholics consider it as an act of love and charity. It is morally and ethically acceptable as per them. The Christian Church, Islam, United Methodists and Judaism encourage organ donation. However, Gypsies tend to oppose it as they believe in afterlife. The Shintos are also against it as they believe that injuring a dead body is a heinous crime.

Apart from this, the political system of a country also impacts organ donation. The organ donation rate can increase if the government extends proper support. There needs to be a strong political will to ensure rise in the transplant rate. Specialised training, care, facilities and adequate funding must be provided to ensure a rise.

Conclusion

The demand for organs has always been way higher than their supply due to the various issues discussed above. There is a need to focus on these issues and work upon them in order to raise the number of organ donors.

HOW TO MOTIVATE YOURSELF TO STUDY

HOW TO MOTIVATE YOURSELF TO STUDY
=========================
Self motivation is an important attribute a person has. Having self motivation helps a person to commit towards the study or any project in life, be a good leader as well as involve in types of creative activities. Self motivation can be available in the person as a trait by birth however; it can also be developed with time through regular practice.
When you study you read deeply, you understand all aspects of the subject and get a good command over it. Now, this could be a subject of academic study as part of your curriculum whether it is at school, college or any other institution of learning, or then any other subject that you fancy or wish to learn about, or then any book or reading material you read with great interest. In other words, study is not restricted to subjects of academic or scholastic learning alone.

Whatever the subject of study and whatever the reason to study, it requires a certain commitment on your part. Well, obviously that is why you are engaging in the study in the first place.

There are benefits to deep study

Remind yourself time to time that there are unlimited benefits to deep study. A study of any subject will give you many a benefit. Study allows for the expansion of the brain and the mind. Unless you study you cannot possess any information or knowledge on any subject. And without knowledge you deny yourself all scope for growth and development mentally, intellectually and scholastically.

By engaging in deep study you will possess extensive knowledge on the subject matter. As a result you can share your ideas and thoughts on the subject with others. By sharing your knowledge you can help in bringing greater good to all.

A study of a subject that is of academic importance as for instance in school or college will help you learn important concepts that you will find crucial in your further studies. Every concept in your study lays the foundation for the understanding of higher and subsequent concepts in the subject.

A clear understanding of any subject requires in-depth study. Superficial reading gives only superficial knowledge that will not stand the test of time. Your retention of the material will be limited if at all. A good grasp of a subject calls for serious and devoted study. A deep study of any subject reveals the many aspects of the subject and actually helps pique the interest of an inquisitive mind and receptive and eager brain. And, thus is paved the way for higher learning in the subject.

Deep study also allows for specialization. If one wants to specialize in a subject there is no way but to study with unwavering interest and steadfastness. The benefits of study translate into the making of a career.

You need to motivate yourself to study

And while we appreciate that it is important and crucial to study, we need to motivate ourselves to keep at it. Study is not a one-off activity. You need to persevere. You need to be committed. Study requires a long-term engagement. It may mean repeated reading. A self-help book, for instance, may have to be read again. A scripture may be read again and again. And in the case of study for a profession or career it may mean many years of study. Isn’t it?

Whatever the nature or purpose of study, we need to prod ourselves to actually engage in it. Often students who have to study find it hard to keep at it. So, there is need to motivate oneself to study. Also, those who have, due to one reason or another, given up a course without its completion need to be motivated to resume their study to gain an academic qualification.

If you are self motivated by birth, you are a lucky one and really blessed by the God. However, if you lack this self motivation, you need to develop it through practice on regular basis. Following are some effective ways which will help you about how to get yourself motivated:

Develop the reading habit

You need to develop the reading habit. It has to be cultivated gradually in case you are not a keen reader. Study after all begins by reading. So, first of all you need to take an interest in reading. Even if only rough or cursory reading, do it. That is the first step.

Reading is enjoyable. Read leisurely when you have time on your hands. You will see the pleasure in reading. And, it will help you in savouring what you read. You will develop the habit of reading slowly and understanding all the nuances of the subject matter in question.
Engage in repeated reading and study

Sometimes, if not always, you need to engage in several rounds of reading to study a particular subject to fully understand the matter. In the first reading you may just get the hang of it. In subsequent rounds, you will actually get the whole idea or grasp the entire topic. This will also facilitate learning by heart when you have to reproduce certain facts or memorize mathematical tables or scientific formulae or recite poetry.

Repeated study helps in refreshing your memory. However, give gaps before you go in for the second and third and subsequent rounds of reading. Re-reading without a time gap may not lead to better grasping of the subject matter; it would tend to get boring.

Read inspirational biographies

When you read inspirational and motivational stories of great personalities, who did great work in their particular chosen field, you feel encouraged and enthused to work hard. And so if the work at hand is to study you will realize the need to study well. You will be keen to follow your role model. And in the process you will appreciate the fact that the primary requirement for success in any field is to study. A film actor has to study a film script well. A sportsperson has to study the genius of other sportsmen who made a mark in their particular sport or game. A scientist has to study. A historian has to study.

Engaging in study is a habit, so develop it

Unless you make efforts, success will elude you. It seems to be true whatever the field of activity. To excel in performing yogic asanas, practice is required. Dance requires practice. Similarly, sportsmen and theatre persons have to practise. Practice is, in other words, regular and persistent effort. So, to study, and study well, you need to be at it with constancy and be persevering. You will then find engaging in study quite easy. Studying is a habit. So, develop it.

It will do well to cultivate the habit because; it is not limited to academics.

No pain, no gain

If you want to achieve your goal you will have to work hard. You will need to make the requisite efforts. And that means you will have to engage in serious study. Whether it is rocket science or art, physics or geography, films or sculpting, sports or designing. If you lack a good study in your area of work, how will you put across what you do?

Keep your goal in view

If you have determined your goal you need to be steadfast in your efforts to achieve it. If you need to study seriously to achieve your goal, you have no choice but to do it. So, keeping your goal in view will motivate you to study. You need to realize that your motivation alone can keep up your efforts towards attaining your goal. So, see your goal as the beacon.

No goal is attained without concerted efforts. If others before you have attained lofty goals it is because they worked hard. So, you too can work hard. You too can study and understand your subject of choice.

Whatever profession or career you may want to choose whether administrator or engineer, artist or musician, doctor or engineer, you need to motivate yourself to engage in a deep study of the subject. Then you will see the beauty of the subject in a deeper way. And then your work will not be a burden. In fact, you will begin to experience enjoyment in studying.

Time is of the essence

Achieving your goal requires that you work in a meaningful, feasible and practical time frame. Often there is an age bracket when you have to achieve your goal. So you cannot afford to be lackadaisical or laid back. You need to study within the set time frame.

Whether it is an examination or course or academic program, there are certain schedules that need to be followed within set time limits. And so you need to motivate yourself to complete the course within the time limit.

Of course, if you delay your goal you experience dejection. But more importantly delaying in pursuing your goal may even make the goal inaccessible to you if there is an age limit. Isn’t it? So, realize the importance of time. And you will be able to motivate yourself to do what is important. And this will help you in engaging in studying in right earnest.

Resources are limited, make the best use

All resources are really limited – time, money and energy. So, when you are fortunate to have these resources, don’t waste them. Put them to good use. See the temporality and limited nature of resources. You will then realize that you should put them to the best use. Wasted resources do not reappear for use. Once gone, forever gone. If you appreciate this truth, you will set yourself to do important tasks and to study when it can fetch you good results, whether it is by way of clearing an exam, making a career or building a profession.

Success is sweet, savour it

No doubt you have to make efforts to achieve your goal. But when you have succeeded in achieving your goal, you get to savour the sweet taste of success. It may be strenuous to study but when the results of your study come by way of success you will be the happiest. And that is what matters. So, don’t grudge engaging in deep and serious study. In the long run, you will value having studied in right earnest.

Be practical, be optimistic, and be positive

It is as simple as that. You need to study. So motivate yourself to simply engage in the activity of studying. Shirking from study does not help you in the long run. It is in your best interest to study. And, so it is advisedly the best solution to study with a positive state of mind and with a curiosity and freshness to what you have to study. So that you actually enjoy studying. And can motivate yourself to study. It can be a virtuous cycle really. So get into the groove and start studying.

So, these were some ways which you can use on regular basis to get yourself motivated towards study or any project in the life and develop self motivation habit in yourself through the time.

ARTICLE ON WOMEN EMPOWERMENT 1 (300 WORDS)
Women Empowerment: Winds of Change

Women empowerment has become the buzzword today with women working alongside men in all spheres. They profess an independent outlook, whether they are living inside their home or working outside. They are increasingly gaining control over their lives and taking their own decisions with regard to their education, career, profession and lifestyle.

With steady increase in the number of working women, they have gained financial independence, which has given them confidence to lead their own lives and build their own identity. They are successfully taking up diverse professions to prove that they are second to none in any respect.   But while doing so, women also take care to strike a balance between their commitment to their profession as well as their home and family. They are playing multiple roles of a mother, daughter, sister, wife and a working professional with remarkable harmony and ease.   With equal opportunities to work, they are functioning with a spirit of team work to render all possible co-operation to their male counterparts in meeting the deadlines and targets set in their respective professions.

Women empowerment is not limited to urban, working women but women in even remote towns and villages are now increasingly making their voices heard loud and clear in society. They are no longer willing to play a second fiddle to their male counterparts. Educated or not, they are asserting their social and political rights and making their presence felt, regardless of their socio-economic backgrounds.

While it is true that women, by and large, do not face discrimination in society today, unfortunately, many of them face exploitation and harassment which can be of diverse types: emotional, physical, mental and sexual. They are often subjected to rape, abuse and other forms of physical and intellectual violence.

Women empowerment, in the truest sense, will be achieved only when there is attitudinal change in society with regard to womenfolk, treating them with proper respect, dignity, fairness and equality. The rural areas of the country are, by and large, steeped in a feudal and medieval outlook, refusing to grant women equal say in the matters of their education, marriage, dress-code, profession and social interactions. Let us hope, women empowerment spreads to progressive as well as backward areas of our vast country.

ARTICLE ON WOMEN EMPOWERMENT 3 (600 WORDS)
Women Empowerment: Key to Social and Economic Growth

Women empowerment can be defined as a process leading to enhancing women’s control over financial, human and intellectual resources in society. In any nation, the women empowerment can be measured by extent of their involvement in social, economic and political fields. Women can be made said to be truly empowered only when all the factors such as self-worth of women, their right to control their own lives, their ability to bring about social change, are addressed simultaneously.

Need for Holistic Empowerment of Women: Participation of women in politics through reservation is undoubtedly a positive development of recent times. Still, only the election should not be the end, but the active participation of women in decision making process and in planning and implementation of development programmes is also required.

Women’s lives must converge effectively and all the efforts in this direction should be focussed towards the goal to bring about a social change leading to manifestation of balance between male and female forces in the society.

Ground Reality about Women Empowerment: Though women comprise almost half of the total percentages of world’s population, they are still deprived of their rights in most of the developing countries across the globe. Particularly in the South and East Asian nations apart from the African countries, the women are leading deprived lives, due to prevalent gender discrimination.

Rural-urban divide: Situation of women in rural areas is more miserable than their counterparts living in urban spaces. It has been widely prevalent that the women are mostly deprived of an equal status vis-a-vis men and thus they remain as passive beneficiaries in the societies in these countries. They remain powerless, due to their less participation and involvement in the generation of resources critical for development. Therefore, women must become active partners with men, if the goal of women empowerment is desired to be achieved in totality.

To make the efforts leading to modernization of any society successful, it is urgent to bring the women in the mainstream of development. We need to strike a perfect balance between male and female contributors in rural societies by providing equal opportunities to women without being biased towards men.

For this to happen, it is required to empower women on all fronts: social, economic, political as well as religious — in such a manner that they can participate actively in all the efforts meant to provide growth to the society. If empowered with equal opportunities in different spheres of life such as social, economic and political, the women will have the choice to lead a publicly active life which may also bring about a positive change in the society. We need to create conducive environment in the society so that the women become confident enough to be able to articulate their thoughts and become more productive in their actions. They are required to be given equal opportunities to be involved in taking decisions for their family as well as society and the country altogether.

Conclusion:

Contemporary societies across the world have been exposed to the major processes of transformation on social and economic development front. However, these processes have not been implemented in a balanced way and have augmented gender imbalances throughout the world in which women remained the ultimate sufferer. The situation has adversely affected the pace of women empowerment. Therefore, we require a completely transformed society in which equal opportunities of growth can be suitably provided to women so that they can co-exist with their male counterparts contributing equally in all the factors responsible for the growth of society in a larger sense.

ARTICLE ON WOMEN EMPOWERMENT 4 (800 WORDS)
Playing multiple roles in families, women have already proven their worth, but still their condition on social and economical fronts has not been up to the mark and in many parts of the world they are forced to lead a miserable life. In such a scenario, it calls for immediate attention to empower them and create conducive environment for their social and economic upliftment.

Women Empowerment is Urgent for Integrated Development

Women empowerment is a must for the betterment of any country’s future as they play dual responsibilities of managing their families while simultaneously juggling to earn to contribute in fulfilling the material needs of their families. No one can ever ignore the importance of the role of a mother, sister, or a daughter in their families. At the same time, women have also established themselves as equal contributors in managing the financial requirements of their homes. On international level as well, women have successfully created their unbeatable position, but they are just a handful in comparison to their not so fortunate counterparts.

Remarkable Performance in sports: On various international platforms, women have successfully proved that if given a chance they can perform no less than their male counterparts and the recently concluded RIO Olympics bears a testimony to this fact. No one can ever forget the names of RIO stars – Sakshi Malik, PV Sindhu and Dipa Karmakar – who became successful in breaking the barriers of gender to raise India’s national flag high in front of the whole world. There is no denial to the fact that in a male dominated country like India, it would have been really hard for them to emerge out of the various prevalent taboos to achieve such positions of eminence.

Victims of Discrimination: Due to long prevailing gender discrimination and dominance of men in the Indian society, women have been suppressed in their families and society at large. Even they have been prone to violence and various discriminations by the male members, even in their own families. The situation is no different in many other countries of the world. Except some European nations most of the other countries in the world are prone to serious gender discrimination, akin to India.

A Long Way to go: In rural areas, the condition of women is far from satisfactory and their contribution to the economy is also negligible. Though they make for almost 50% of the population of the country, they have not been empowered enough to get equal opportunities in realising their fullest potential. In such condition, we can say that our country cannot become a developed nation unless we empower women in the true sense of the term. It is very necessary to pay proper attention to their development by providing them equal opportunities in all areas of human activity.

Winds of Change: Though Women have been given a special place in every religion, many ill practices have been going on against women as a norm since ages. But positive changes are now visible and the patriarchal system of society has been gradually eroding. Women are now claiming the socio-political rights (right to work, right to education, right to decide, etc) for themselves.

The successive governments have implemented various constitutional and legal rights to help women lead purposeful and meaningful lives. There is an increasing awareness about women’s rights which is evident in the emergence of several NGOs and self-help groups. At the individual level too, women are now breaking the shackles of suppression and making their voices heard for their rights.

The Parliament of India too has passed various legislations to save women from various forms of injustice and discrimination. Following are some of these laws to empower women: Equal Remuneration Act-1976; Dowry Prohibition Act-1961; Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act-1956, Medical termination of Pregnancy Act-1971; Maternity Benefit Act-1961; Commission of Sati (Prevention) Act-1987; Prohibition of Child Marriage Act-2006; Pre-Conception & Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (Regulation and Prevention of Misuse) Act-1994; and Sexual Harassment of Women at Work Place (Prevention, Protection and) Act-2013.

More recently, in the wake of Nirbhaya case involving the rape and brutal murder of paramedical student in Delhi, the government has passed the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Bill, 2015. This Act makes a significant departure from the earlier Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2000, as the juvenile age inviting punishment for offence now stands reduced from 18 to 16 years.

Conclusion: If we want to bring about women empowerment in the true sense, there is a crying need for the elimination of the male superiority and patriarchal mindset. Also, women need to be given equal opportunities for education and employment without any sense of discrimination. Unless there is attitudinal change in society towards women, merely arming them with legal and constitutional rights will be simply inadequate.
